Hybrid insurance discounts are available to you just for purchasing your fuel-efficient vehicle – and can save you up to 10%!

Major insurance companies know that people who purchase fuel-efficient vehicles are less risky; hybrid insurance discounts are available.

Receiving a 10% hybrid insurance discount leads to significant long-term savings on your auto insurance policies.

Receiving hybrid insurance discounts from major auto insurance providers is a distinct possibility. The Green philosophy has been firmly integrated into all societies planetwide – and that means that governments and insurance providers are being very accommodating.

In fact, almost every insurance provider offers up to a 10% discount on hybrid vehicle policy premiums. You see, the world is becoming less dependent upon fossil fuels; it must. The entire international automotive industry is being revamped to manufacture more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Electric cars and trucks (EVs) and hybrid vehicles are taking over – and they are forming the automotive design basis for the future.

EV and hybrid insurance discounts are in place to encourage the masses to get involved with helping to protect and preserve this planet’s limited natural resources. If they are depleted fully, there will be widespread environmental devastation – not to mention wars, economic collapse and more.

Major insurance company providers know that environmentally responsible people, like those who choose to purchase electric and/or hybrid vehicles, present less financial risks to insure than do their non-eco-friendly counterparts.

Facts about getting discounts on hybrid auto insurance policies:

In addition to saving up to 10% for your hybrid insurance discount, you can save significantly more on your auto insurance premiums by qualifying for and receiving the following types of discounts:

◦	Safe driver discounts;
◦	Automotive safety feature discounts;
◦	Low mileage discounts;
◦	Senior citizen discounts;
◦	Good student discounts;
◦	Multi-car policy discounts;
◦	Antitheft device discounts;
◦	And more…

You can receive your hybrid vehicle insurance discount whether you are purchasing or leasing the vehicle.

Having a strong credit rating will save you even more money on your insurance policies for electric and hybrid vehicles.

As you would expect, having a excellent driving record will save you significant amounts on your insurance policies as well.

Always remember that any insurance policy is based primarily upon the value of the vehicle to be insured. So don’t expect to insure a $50,000 dollar hybrid vehicle for less than you would a a $10,000 dollar non-hybrid vehicle.

Final tips for locating and receiving hybrid insurance discounts:

Take your time and do not rush the process of locating quality automobile insurance for your hybrid vehicle.

Comparison shop online to receive side-by-side comparison charts of the best rate quotes from major automotive insurers.

Make sure that you understand the small details of all discounts that you qualify for on your insurance policies. Remember that these discounts are not offered freely; you will most likely have to ask.

Receiving hybrid insurance discounts on your automobile insurance policies is a pleasant, money-saving reward for your environmentally responsible actions.

Helping to save the planet, making less trips to gasoline pumps and saving 10% on your policies for hybrid automotive insurance is definitely a winning combination. Enjoy it!

Many people have heard about electric cars but most people do not know how it works. Firstly, pure electric car are pretty rare. The current buzz from car manufacturers are hybrid cars. Hybrid cars run on both electric and gasoline.

Example of hybrid cars available in the market are the Toyota Prius,
Honda Civic Hybrid, Nissan Altima Hybrid etc.

Compared to a conventional vehicle that uses an internal combustion engine as its power plant, a pure electric vehicle (EV) uses only electricity as its main power source.

Example of EVs are the Tesla Roadster, BMW Mini-E, Fisher Karma, Nissan Electric Cube, Jeep EV Wrangler etc.

An electric car uses electricity stored in batteries to turn an electric motor (either DC or AC) which turns the wheels. This is similar concept to using gas stored in a tank to turn an engine.

What are the main parts in an electric car?

Not a lot to be honest. The following are the key components of an electric car.

1) An electric motor which powers the wheels.

2) Batteries which store the electricity.

3) A controller which acts as a floodgate between the batteries and
the motor and is attached to the accelerator.

There are a few other bits such as fuses, a circuit-breaker in case of emergency, a contactor to “start” the car’s main circuit, a vacuum pump to keep your brake system working, and some relays to keep items such as your heater and the key-ignition switch operating.

There is one main drawback of pure electric cars. They are freaking expensive!

A new EV from the dealership will set you back $30,000 – $40,000. A cheaper alternative is to convert a conventional automobile into an electric car.

This can be done by sending your car to a professional EV converter. If you are good with hand tools and have some knowledge on cars, you can also do the conversion via a Do It Yourself (DIY) approach.

If you are a novice and would like to know more about EVs, check out the book by Les Oke call Convert2EV.

Les Oke and his family are Canadian and they have been living off the grid all their lives. Part of their green lifestyle is to use a vehicle with zero emission. An electric car fit their needs perfectly.

Les has converted numerous cars to run on electricity. His manual basically teaches you the science of an EV and the works involved in a conversion project.

Convert2EV is one of the first e-book that I bought from the internet and it was very informative. Click on the link below for more information.

I have been keeping an eye on the electric car industry for over a year now. Since then, there have been a lot of new electric car models that have been unveiled from the manufacturers. These EVs are very practical for everyday driving. Some of the cars are not available for the time being, but the manufacturers have started taking orders. The following is my personal list of the Top Ten Electric Car Model.

1) Tesla Roadster – The Tesla Roadster is an all-electric sports car produced by the electric car firm Tesla Motors and is the first car produced by the company. The Roadster can travel more then 200 miles on a single charge of its lithium-ion battery pack, and can accelerate from 0–60 mph in 3.9 seconds. This is my number 1 pick because of its great sex appeal.

2) BMW Mini E – BMW announced the production of a Mini powered by an electric motor in the summer of 2008 to be called the Mini E. BMW Group will be the world’s first manufacturer of premium electric vehicles to deploy a fleet of more than 500 Mini E for private use.

3) Fisker Karma – The Fisker Karma is a plug-in hybrid luxury sports sedan revealed on 14 January 2008 and manufactured by Fisker Automotive. So far, this is the closest luxury sport electric car that can rival the Tesla Roaster.

4) Chevrolet Volt – The Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle to be produced by General Motors. The vehicle is expected to be launched as a 2011 model with integration vehicles to be built starting on June 2009. In spite of GM bankruptcy filing, the automaker announced it remained committed to keeping the Volt on schedule. There has been a lot of buzz on the Chevrolet Volt. It looks like it could be the idea sedan electric car for the average driver.

5) Tesla Model S – The Tesla Model S is the second electric car model from Tesla Motors. This is a cheaper version of a sedan electric vehicle for the public. During the preliminary development stage, the car was actually codenamed WhiteStar.

6) Nissan Electric Cube – The Nissan Cube is a mini MPV produced by Nissan and currently sold only in Japan, United States and Canada. In 2008, Nissan revealed the Nissan Denki (Japanese for “electric”) Cube Concept. Making its debut at the March 2008 New York International Auto Show.

7) Jeep EV Wrangler – The 2010 Jeep Wrangler EV, was revealed on the 2009 Detroit auto show. The Wrangler EV runs as an electric vehicle so long as its lithium-ion batteries hold a charge. The vehicle also has a 200-kW (268 hp) electric motor that can go up to 40 miles, before a small gasoline engine kicks in. The internal combustion engine doesn’t physically drive the rear wheels, but acts as a generator and feeds electricity to both the battery and the electric motor. In total, The Wrangler EV with the combination of battery and generator power is enough to travel 400 miles on a ten-gallon tank of fuel.

8) BYD E6 – BYD E6 is an all electric crossover in production by BYD Auto. Its all-electric range is expected to reach 400 km per charge. The E6 will be marketed as a 5-passenger family-oriented crossover vehicle.

9) Citreon C1 ev’ie – The Citroën C1 ev’ie is a model of electric car adapted from a standard Citroën C1 by the Electric Car Corporation. The initial 2e model is a two-seat, three-wheeled battery electric vehicle. Aptera is currently accepting pre-orders from California residents.

The Think Ox electric car hitting the North America market in 2009.

Th!nk Ox Electric Car For the Masses

After receiving some construction feedback from my blog reader, I have decided to dig deeper on the world electric car manufacturers.

I did some research on the company Think North America or Th!nk North America. My first visit to Think web site, I noticed a few of their electric car range. They were funny looking and do not seem to have the sex appeal of a Tesla Roadster.

But then I saw their upcoming model, the Think Ox. I wander why the marketing division of Think named it after an animal.

Apart from its name, the Ox does have some appealing features:

1) The electric car can travel 125 and 155 miles before needing a recharge.

2) It can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in about 8.5 seconds which is pretty awesome.

3) Its lithium-ion batteries can be charged to 80% capacity in less than an hour.

4) A new Ox comes with GPS navigation.

5) Built in mobile Internet connection.

6) The selling price of the Ox has not been officially announced but the current Th!nk models are selling below $25,000.

Think will start promoting the Ox in the North America region in 2009. I think promoting an all electric car to the market would be an uphill climb. However, Think can start by focusing on niche markets such as cities, universities, and fleets.

It will take some time before the idea of electric car for the masses takes off. It would be a good idea to target the early adopter of the market. If the product is excellent, they will spread it to the rest of the consumer.
