Electric Car Conversion From Your Home Garage – Do Not Try It!

Don’t Try This At Home

We all know the drawbacks on a [tag-tec]gasoline driven car[/tag-tec]. It is noisy, inefficient, pollutes the environment and sucks our pocket dry.

Many people are thinking of getting a new electric vehicle (EV) to overcome those issues. Unfortunately, a brand new electric car is still relatively expensive. If we want an EV, the only option is to convert our gas guzzler into an EV at our home garage.

But before you do so, here are a few warnings!

You can choose to ignore these warnings. If you do so, you will end up spending lots of money and at the end of the day you will have no EV and no car to drive.

1) Do not attempt to modify a car to run on electricity if you have no idea how car works.

It’s basic common sense. Do not mess with things you do not understand. Retrofitting an electric car is like performing heart surgery on your car.

You are literally taking out the heart of the vehicle which is the internal combustion engine and replacing it with a DC electric motor. There are many bolts and wires connected to the engine. The most dangerous ones are the fuel lines. There may be some gasoline residue in the lines and it is highly flammable. Know your stuff before you try to take it apart.

2) If you have no idea how electricity works, do not mess with it! The main power source for an EV is electricity. Electricity is dangerous if you do not know how to handle it.

If you get electrocuted from the current coming from one battery, you can still handle it. An average electric car has more than 10 units of deep cycle batteries. It is safe to say, if you get electrocuted from those power packs, it will definitely ruin your day.

Here’s my main point…if you are not familiar with car maintenance or the science of electricity, do not attempt to convert your car to electric on your own.

It is a better idea to outsource the conversion process to a professional mechanic. You will save time and money but most importantly, you will not endanger yourself.
