Porsche 912 EV Conversion
Here’s an interesting video that I found on Youtube. It’s a 1966 Porsche 912 converted into a [tag-tec]pure electric car[/tag-tec] by Mr Kevin Young. The Porsche uses 12 units of 12 Volts deep cycle batteries, very similar to the ones used on electric golf carts. The electric vehicle has about 50 driving miles per overnight charge. But get this, it only cost on average 21 cents per charge! Total DIY electric car conversion cost was about $6500. Check out the video.
According to Kevin Young, he did his own electric car conversion at home because he was fed up with the high gas prices. All he did was look for information in on the internet and read a few books on EV conversion. There’s a few reasons why he chose the 1966 Porsche 912 as his EV donor car. The two key main reasons are light weight and the cool factor!
One thing you have to know about Kevin, he an aerospace engineer! So a home DIY electric car conversion would be pretty easy for him. But if you are keen to find out how you could start you own EV conversion, you should check out Les Oke’s Convert 2 EV e-book.
