Electric Car Conversion Plans – 5 Tips To Find Good EV Manual

Things To Look Out For Good Electric Car Conversion Plans
If you are looking for electric car conversion plans on the internet, here are 5 things you should look out for.
1) Prove.
Make sure the author of the book has converted a gasoline driven car to electric vehicle (EV).
Some of the EV manuals out there are “ghost written”. Meaning, a copy writer writes that book and sells it as a Private Label Right (PLP). Then anyone can buy the right, slap on his name as the author and try to sell it on the web.
How do you prove the authenticity of the EV conversion manual?
That’s easy…look for lots of before and after pictures of the electric car conversion process.
If the manual has a lot of pictures of the EV components, and there are pictures of the same components used in the EV engine bay, that would prove the authenticity of the author.
2) Videos.
Videos are an alternative media on the internet. It is not new but videos do present information much better than an e-book.
Here’s a fact. It takes time, effort and money to make good videos.
If an electric car conversion guide comes with instructional videos, it shows the author is serious about his work and most probably is an authority in his field.
3) Comprehensive / Detail information.
A good EV manual should have detailed information about an EV conversion project. Actual parts cost break down or a component model and part number says a lot about the content of the guide.
4) Referencing.
Do a quick query on the search engine on the author’s name. Find out what other people are talking about the author.
If you can find lots of web sites talking about the work of the author, it is a good sign he is legit.
If you can’t find any references on the web, the said author may not even exist.
What does that tell you about the EV manual? Probably not very good. Don’t you think so?
5) Personality.
Have a look at the electric car conversion guide main web page.
Can you feel the voice of the author?
Different people write in different ways. Some can be very technical, others a bit light and humorous.
What you want is something in between. Have a feel of the personality of the author from the material he wrote on his web site.
If it’s good, chances are, his e-book would have the same voice.

Gavin is a New Zealander and pretty much an average guy. But there’s one problem, he has an addiction. Just like millions of people in the world, Gavin is addicted to oil.
Couple of years back, Gavin decided to break his habit of stopping at the gasoline station to fuel up his car. He went on a quest to convert a conventional car to run purely on electricity.
What he did was bought an old 1987 Mitsubishi Tredia, stripped out the internal combustion engine and installed an electric motor. He was a total amateur in electric vehicle (EV) conversion and most of the conversion process was based on trial and error.
But in the end, he managed to get it done.
His homemade electric car caught the attention of a local news station. A news segment was done about his electric Tredia and Gavin was interviewed by a reporter. You can see the news clip above.

Electric Vehicle Conversion Manual – What Can You Expect?
Many people including myself like the idea of driving a pure plug-in electric car. Unfortunately, currently there is not one electric car on the road in the country I am staying in. Maybe in the near future, things might change and more EVs will be in the road.
Those that stay in the United States have the benefit of buying a pure electric car from a dealership. Many car manufacturers are looking into the USA to launch their range of electric car models. Have you check the price tag of the EV lately? One thing is for sure, it is much more expensive compared to a conventional gasoline driven car. We are talking about $40,000 and above!
This is understandable because the manufacturers have not reached the economy of scale for the prices to come down. Then again, things might change very quickly if there’s a new government policy or subsidies offered to the car makers.
If you are not prepared to spend the money on a new electric car, what is your next best option? Those that are good with hand tools and understand the workings of an automobile will convert a conventional car to EV.
How about the average Joe that has no clue how a car works? Well, then it is a good idea to get an electric vehicle conversion manual.
If you were to buy an electric car conversion book, what can you expect from the manual?
The manual will basically show you how an electric car works. You will learn the parts and components in an EV such as the electric motor, electric controller, inertia switch, deep cycle battery, battery box, battery charger, throttle box, potential meter, amp meter etc.
Here’s a fact that you may or may not know. Most people would not have the skill nor the required tools to do their own electric car conversion project.
Depending on your work schedule, an EV conversion project will take between 6 months to a year to complete. Assuming you are only working on your electric car in the weekends.
If you want to own an EV, it would be a better idea to outsource the conversion process to a professional mechanic. It will cost you some money for their services, but you will be saving time and unnecessary head ache.
So what’s your role in the project? Your key role is to make sure they do not break your allocated budget. How do you do that? This is where the electric vehicle conversion manual will come in handy.
Make sure you study the EV conversion book and understand the work involved in converting a gas guzzler to run on electric power. With the knowledge, at least you will know when you are being billed for unnecessary parts or work done on your car.
Even just by knowing the jargon of EV owners, it will make the mechanic to think twice before asking you to spend more money on your car.
