Electricity 4 Gas Manual Chapter One

I was reading Peter Millward’s electric car conversion manual and I decided to make a quick post on the first chapter of Electricity4Gas EV conversion manual.

On the first chapter, Peter talks about finding a vehicle to convert to run on electricity.

A vehicle that will be retrofitted into electric is also know as a “donor car”.

When you are choosing for a donor car, you can select one which has a busted engine.

Since the conversion process suggested in Electricity4Gas book involves removing the [tag-tec]internal combustion engine[/tag-tec], it is a good idea to look for a car with a faulty engine.

There is also an added benefit when you are doing this.

A used car that requires major repair on the engine is usually cheaper.

The reason is obvious…you have to spend money to fix it!

You can also negotiate with the seller and keep bringing up the faulty engine issue and get a better deal for it. The seller has no idea that you are going to remove the engine.

As long as the car has a good transmission, suspension and brakes, it will do just fine as your DIY electric car conversion project donor vehicle.

There are many ways you can save cost on your DIY electric car conversion project, Peter Millward’s Electricity 4 Gas Manual has many useful suggestion.

Anything else regarding the book other than a shameless plug?

Hello Patrick, thanks for your comment.

Generally, the Electricy4Gas book was written for those who want to understand the basic science of a homemade electric car. You will not find any detailed electric load calculation formulas in the book.

I guess most people would not have the tools nor the skill to build their own electric vehicle (EV) at home. It is much easier to outsource the conversion work to a professional mechanic. Nonetheless, the book will provide you some knowledge on EV so when the mechanic is talking to you about the retrofitting project, you will understand what he is trying to say.
